About Us

The History of DREDC

Over the past 60 years, DREDC has continuously worked with city and community leaders to fill the needs of Dell Rapids. The organization was founded in 1967 to meet the unique need of managing the old Pavilion building near the city park. City business leaders came together and found an industrial user to bring jobs filling the underutilized space. 

Moving Forward Together

DREDC is continuing to work towards its mission by developing the remaining land in the Fiegen Development Park, assisting current and future Dell Rapids businesses, and marketing the community with our partners.

2023

Launching Façade Improvement Program

DREDC started its annual Façade Improvement Grant program assisting downtown businesses improve their buildings and attract more business to the Dell Rapids’ central business district.
2022

Investing in Professional Development Services

The City of Dell Rapids invested in the Economic Development Management Service with the Sioux Metro Growth Alliance allowing DREDC to have its first paid staff member.
2020

Revitalizing Historic Downtown

The organization helped Always Your Design to renovate the Horime Department Store Building. Over the past 25 years, Always Your Design has established itself as one of the best Quilt Shops in the country bringing visitors from across the country each year.
Late 2010s

Growing the Industrial Workforce

The Fiegen Development Park began to fill with over 100 jobs by welcoming Midwest Fresh Logistics, Carstensen Contracting, and Chamberlain Oil to Dell Rapids.
2015

Launching Fiegen Industrial Park

DREDC purchased 80 acres of land in SE Dell Rapids and began developing the Fiegen Industrial Park. In coordination with City and State partners, water and sewer utilities were extended south of the Big Sioux River for the first time in the City’s history.
Mid 1990s

Interstate Land Development

The organization purchased and developed 11-acres of land on the NE corner of the Dell Rapids I-29 interstate exit. Today, this land is home to multiple businesses and dozens of jobs.
Early 1990s

Supporting Business Expansion

The organization helped Dressen Trailer expand their operations on the Dell Rapids Interstate Exit through the County permitting process.
Late 1980s

Strategic Land Acquisition for Growth

The organization worked with the City of Dell Rapids to purchase property in the airstrip area for industrial development and the City Public Works department.
1967

Founding & First Business Partnership

Dell Rapids Development Company is founded by 15 original members. The organization worked with Dakota Industries to locate in the old “Pavilion” by the city park.
