Dell Rapids, SD — Local leaders and community partners from South Dakota and Nebraska participated in the Dakota Resources Housing Gathering held April 14–15 in Platte, South Dakota. The two-day event brought together thirty-eight community developers, housing professionals, and regional stakeholders to share strategies, tools, and real-world examples aimed at strengthening housing opportunities.

“Making sure that we have adequate housing for all the demographics in Dell Rapids is a big factor in keeping our community thriving for years to come,” said Matthew Larson, Dell Rapids Community Development Director. “This experience gave me practical ideas and connections that I can bring back to Dell Rapids as we continue working to meet local housing needs.”

A key takeaway from the gathering was the importance of locally driven solutions. Presenters shared successful models such as housing investment funds, public-private partnerships, and innovative financing tools that communities can use to support new construction, rehabilitation, and housing affordability. Case studies from Canton and Beadle & Spink Counties demonstrated how communities of all sizes are leading with persistence, leveraging collaboration, and using creative funding models to make meaningful progress.

Participants also emphasized the value of collaboration—across local, regional & state governments, nonprofits, businesses, and residents—in developing sustainable housing solutions. The gathering reinforced that addressing housing challenges requires both long-term planning and immediate action, supported by strong local leadership and community engagement.
